Bluestem Earth Festival 2014 at the Unv. of St. Francis

The Bluestem Earth Festival is organized by the Joliet Franciscan Sisters to increase awareness of the need for a healthy earth, healthy living and social justice issues in our community. All residents are invited to attend this family friendly event on the Unv of St. Francis campus on Sat, May 10.

Bluestem Earth Festival 2014 will take place on Saturday, May 10th from 10:00A.M. to 4:00P.M. at the University of St. Francis, Joliet, IL.

This free event will feature a variety of earth friendly activities such as workshops, eco-conscious exhibits and vendors, entertainment and children's activities. There will also be speakers addressing contemporary social concerns such as human trafficking and water issues. A tour of the historic Motherhouse building, food and music will round out the day.

Earth Festival participants are locally based, as well as from the Chicagoland and surrounding areas. According to committee member Jeanne Phelan, “We wanted to provide our community with a local festival that can educate and empower families and individuals of all ages to live a more sustainable, healthy lifestyle, as well as spotlight some of our local businesses.”

Guests can expect live entertainment from the band, GeneratorX and dulcimer player, Nate Pultorak; all day children’s activities provided by the Joliet Park District; raffles and “green” giveaways. Joliet arborist, Tim Teiber, will be giving away free trees.

Other participants include, Will County Land Use Resource Recovery & Energy, Will County Master Gardeners, Will County Land Conservancy, Water With Blessings, Joliet Health Department, Will County Bee Keepers, Green Earth Institute, Contrary Mary’s, The Diocese of Joliet Office of Human Dignity and many more.
