  • Books are treasured by many people and organizations around the world.      
  • Many books never go out of date or need to be discarded.
  • Donation, sharing, reuse are all better alternatives than disposing of books. 
  • If a book is not able to be reused, it can be recycled.
  • Soft cover books are accepted in curbside and drop-off programs.
  • Hard cover books must be given to a company able to remove the to be recycled.
 

Reuse and Recycling Collection Events                                      

Will County has offered book reuse and recycling events for years, attracting donations from residents, schools, libraries and businesses. This annual event runs for three consecutive days, usually in June, and has been done in partnership with the Joliet Park District at Pilcher Park for the past decade.

Sharefest is an event held annually in September in New Lenox and it has also incorporated a book reuse and recycling opportunity for residents.  Please see the event calendar to learn when these annual events are scheduled so you may get some free books or share some books you no longer wish to keep.


Special Collection Boxes are found in parking lots throughout Will County where permited. Some of the businesses that install these boxes are non-profits and some are for-profit.  Please read the labels closely. As information becomes available on locations, Will County will list websites to assist in locating these boxes.
