Energy Efficiency Improvements to Sunny Hill Nursing Home
The Sunny Hill Nursing Home has been in operation since 1955, but the buildings being utilized for the 238 bed skilled nursing facility are not the originals. A number of renovation have been done to improve the efficiency of this 24-hour a day facility over the past few years.
The list of projects at this facility done with EECBG funds:
•Replace entrance/exit doors with double pane low E glass.
•Add energy efficient plumbing boiler to heat water.
•Add occupancy sensors in rest rooms and corridors (may be done with other funding).
•Replace insulation on domestic hot water storage tank (may be done with other funding).
The total estimated cost of these project is $207,450

•Energy Saved –.0083 MMCF Natural Gas
(million cubic ft = 8,300 cubic feet)
•Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduced (CO2 equivalents) –3.55 metric tons

The Sunny Hill Nursing Home water heating upgrade has received national industry recognition for its energy efficiency. Most recently, it was featured in an article in Wholesaler Magazine (page 68).
