1 University Pkwy
Romeoville, IL, 60446

Will County and Lewis University have partnered to offer the fourth annual Will County collection of pumpkins for recycling. From 9am to Noon on Saturday, Nov. 3, students, parents, and residents are encouraged to pitch their pumpkins and gourds! Staff from the County will be joined by the Farm Bureau and Unv of IL Ext office to measure distance and offer prizes! Physics students will be offering a catapult option to add some thrills. Document Destruction will also be offered.

Lewis University volunteered to partner with Will County because Lewis already collects food scraps on their campus and sends them for composting. Like Will County, the University wants to encourage more residents, businesses and schools to start composting.  The Will County Farm Bureau and the Unv of IL Extension Office are once again joining the effort to offer residents a chance to give their Jack-O-Lanterns a second life through composting! Lewis physics students are offering a CATAPULT Pumpkin option to make the event more thrilling! A document destruction service will also be there to pair the shredding of paper with the shredding of pumpkins!

Everyone is invited to bring their carved or painted pumpkins to Lewis University's "W" parking lot on Saturday, Nov. 3 (the Saturday after Halloween) from 9am to Noon!

Prizes will be given while available to participants - coloring books for all children, and special treats for those pitching or catapulting their pumpkin over 15 feet!

Naked Pumpkins Only! No candles, bags or boxes!

Limit of five pumpkins per person

This is a chance for a decorative natural item to be recycled, as all the pumpkins collected will be taken to a site to be mixed and composted. Eventually they will become a highly nutritious soil supplement, feeding future crops, gardens - or perhaps a new pumpkin patch!  Be part of the fun and bring your family or friends to see who can pitch their pumpkin the furthest!
