Will County Textile Program

Since 2006 Will County encouraged gym shoe (aka.sneakers) recycling at an annual week-long collection.  The program expanded to include all types of shoes. Then in 2010, for the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, the County enlarged the collection to include all textile items.

Most clothing is discarded before it degrades, but even when it is missing a button, has a broken zipper or a stain, the clothing continues to be valued in other areas of the world.  Donations are tax deductible and can go to assist people in our local community.

Cotton takes more pesticides to grow than any other crop but results in a fiber that can be recycled endlessly. Polyester in clothing can also be used to make polyester carpet.
