09:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Lewis University - Parking Lot South of the main entrance
1 University Pkwy
Romeoville, IL, 60446

Will County and Lewis University have partnered to offer the second annual Will County collection of pumpkins for recycling. From 9am to Noon on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, students, parents, and residents are encouraged to pitch their pumpkins and guords! Staff from the County will be joined by the Farm Bureau and Unv of IL Ext office to measure distance and offer prizes! Don't trash your Jack-O-Lantern, bring it in for recycling!

Lewis University volunteered to partner with Will County because Lewis already collects food scraps on their campus and sends them for composting. Like Will County, the University wants to encourage more residents, businesses and schools to start composting.  The Will County Farm Bureau and the Unv of IL Extension Office are once again joining the effort to offer residents a chance to give their Jack-O-Lanterns a second life through composting!

Everyone is invited to bring their carved pumpkins to Lewis University's "L" parking lot on Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7 (a week after Halloween) from 9am to Noon!

Prizes will be given while available to participants - coloring books for all children, and special treats for those pitching their pumpkin 5 feet, 10 feet and over 15 feet!  Raffle tickets for a chance to win one of four grand prizes - $25 gift certificate to Heroes West of Joliet!

Naked Pumpkins Only! No candles, bags or boxes!

Limit of five pumpkins per person

This is a chance for a decorative natural item to be recycled, as all the pumpkins collected will be taken to a site to be mixed and composted. Eventually they will become a highly nutritious soil supplement, feeding future crops, gardens - or perhaps a new pumpkin patch!  Be part of the fun and bring your family or friends to see who can pitch their pumpkin the furthest!
