ComEd's Smart Ideas program consists of the following services and rebates to help business customers conserve energy, save money and help the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. • Prescriptive incentives for common commercial and industrial efficiency measures, including lighting technologies, motors, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration. Incentives are paid on a per-unit basis.

  • Custom incentives for retrofit or major energy saving custom technologies not included in the list of qualified prescriptive measures. Custom incentives cover more complex measures, from lighting re-design to industrial improvements.

  • Lighting Discounts at participating stores on the purchase of select energy saving light bulbs, such as ENERGY STAR qualified LED lights and compact fluorescent light bulbs.

  • Compressed air retro-commissioning provides expert analysis of a building's operating pressure, controls sequencing, compressors and more to help identify no-cost and low-cost energy saving improvements. These improvements can save thousands of dollars a year on an electric bill, reduce maintenance and repair costs for a compressed air system and increase the useful life of equipment.

  • Building retro-commissioning provides expert analysis of an entire building to help all of its systems perform optimally through a systematic evaluation of energy using systems to identify no-cost and low-cost energy-saving improvements.

  • New construction provides technical assistance and financial incentives to encourage building owners, designers and architects to surpass standard, new construction, renovation and lighting practices with the integration of energy efficient features.

Overall, ComEd's Smart Ideas program has paid out more than $35 million in incentives to encourage commercial and industrial business customers to implement energy saving technologies that use electricity more efficiently, reduce electricity consumption and save money. These efforts have helped more than 4,100 northern Illinois businesses save approximately $50 million in electricity costs.

Smart Ideas is funded by ComEd customers in compliance with Illinois Public Act 95-0481. For more information and to download an application for incentives, visit ComEd.com/BizIncentives or call the Smart Ideas hotline at 888-806-2273.
